An important activity of INPA is to help the elected representatives of various tiers to attain expertise in parliamentary practices and procedures, and Indian Constitution. In certain situations, public officials also need to be trained on various issues – for instance drafting and translating legislations. The Institute, therefore, has a training/orientation programme for both people’s representatives and officials.
Further to inculcate respect and create awareness about democracy in the younger generation, the Institute, with the help of the Education Department, seeks to include in school curriculum lessons on parliamentary procedures and practices. INPA also institutes Chairs in various universities for this purpose. The Institute has also a programme called ‘Understanding Democracy’ which seeks to familiarise the elected representatives, students, youths, academics and administrators with the functioning of Parliaments/Legislatures elsewhere in India and outside through organising study visits.
